Golden Rule 2020: A Call for Dignity and Respect

As we approach our national election we encourage you to visit our page for Golden Rule 2020. This initiative encourages people to apply Christian teachings to our political discussions. The purpose of Golden Rule 2020: A Call for Dignity and Respect is to promote the application of the Golden Rule in interactions during this election year.

American Baptist Churches USA invites partners and friends to participate in Golden Rule 2020 because it reminds us that the teachings of Jesus are relevant in all areas of life–even our political interactions.  It is not easy to practice the Golden Rule–especially in difficult discussions with those who have very different views– but our faith requires us to try.

Learn how you can participate in Golden Rule 2020 here.

As the election nears, the National Institute for Civil Discourse encourages persons to:

  • Take the Golden Rule 2020 Pledge:

I commit to do my best to practice the Golden Rule and treat others with respect and dignity in my political discourse and behavior during the 2020 campaign season.

  • Share “Voices of Everyday Americans of Faith” on social media-Every day between now and the election, comments are being shared from individuals who have taken the Golden Rule Pledge and persons are invited to use the hashtag #GoldenRule2020 and share the daily posts on their own social media platforms. Persons may follow the National Institute for Civil Discourse @NICDInstitute to see these posts each morning and can easily retweet or share them. At times we may also tag individuals using the hashtag to help elevate a particular posting.
  • Sign the pledge at goldenrule2020.org and state your intention to treat others with respect and dignity in political interactions.  All who sign up get receive information to help them in their personal practice as well as notice of other educational programs.
