Renew and Lead: A Workship for Ministry Wellness

KING OF PRUSSIA, PA (ABNS 7/29/25)— American Baptist Churches USA (ABCUSA) is pleased to announce “Renew and Lead: A Workship for Ministry Wellness,” a one-day gathering dedicated to the holistic well-being of clergy and ministry leaders. This event, which also serves as the third workship in the 2025 ABCUSA Workship series, will be held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the ABCUSA Offices, located at 1015 W. 9th Avenue, King of Prussia, PA 19406.

This “workship”—an integration of workshop and worship—is part of ABCUSA’s ongoing Leadership Wellness Series, providing sacred space for spiritual renewal, intentional reflection, and community connection. Designed especially for those in ministry, the gathering will focus on strategies for sustaining personal and spiritual health amid the demands of leadership.

Workship presenters include Rev. Dr. Patricia Murphy, Ecclesiastical Endorser for American Baptist Churches USA and Director of Spiritual Caregivers at Home Mission Societies (ABHMS), and Rev. Betty Wright-Riggins, Chaplain and Director of Religion and Spiritual Life at Ursinus College.

Leaders also include Valoria L. Cheek, Esq., President and CEO of the American Baptist Extension Corporation and Lianne Quaynor, Program Coordinator for Emerging Leaders and Scholarships for American Baptist Home Mission Societies.

“Renew & Lead offers clergy and ministry leaders a much-needed space to connect heart to heart. Together we will rest, reflect, and reconnect with God.” said Rev. Dr. Gina C. Jacobs-Strain, General Secretary of American Baptist Churches USA. “This gathering invites us to be poured into—to prioritize wellness, receive spiritual direction, and be renewed in community. I joyfully invite ministry leaders to join us for this day of restoration and encouragement.”

Participants will engage in worship, explore spiritual direction as a resource for wellness, and build relationships with fellow ministry leaders committed to leading from a place of joy, health, and wholeness.

“We know that ministry leadership can be both deeply fulfilling and incredibly demanding,” said Rev. Dr. Patricia Hernandez, Associate General Secretary for Women in Ministry and Transition Ministries. “This event is about creating space for soul care—tending to our own well-being even as we pour into the lives of others.”
