ABHMS Calls National Coordinator for Justice and Advocacy

VALLEY FORGE, PA (5/10/23)—American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS) is pleased to announce that the Rev. Kerwin Webb answered the call to join ABHMS’ Healing & Transforming Communities team as national coordinator for justice and advocacy. His responsibilities in this crucial role include cultivating and strengthening networks of justice advocates who demonstrate faith in action, serve as public witnesses, and advance the healing and transforming of communities in the United States and Puerto Rico.

“With a passion for capacity training, equity/diversity/inclusion and a certificate in coaching, Kerwin is an effective communicator, non-profit leader and problem-solver,” said Dr. Jeffrey Haggray, ABHMS’ executive director. “His unique combination of experience with faith-based and community organizations is a valuable addition to ABHMS’ ministries.”

The Rev. Lisa Harris Lee, director of Healing & Transforming Communities, also acknowledged critical strengths possessed by her new team member: “Kerwin is a mature and visionary ministry leader who recognizes the historic legacy of American Baptists in addressing societal injustices and hopes to engage us in efforts that bear witness to the love and courageous action of Jesus.”

“This is the work that I have been called and equipped to do,” said Rev. Webb. “I’m excited to join with colleagues and new partners in the work of healing and transforming communities through advocacy, justice, and truth-telling.”

Rev. Webb, who will be based in New Jersey in his role with ABHMS, is an education specialist with Interfaith Neighbors in Asbury Park. He is also a youth and young adult pastor of Second Baptist Church in the same community. Further, as the founder of Renew My Word Foundation, he seeks to nurture leaders who are committed to community initiatives.

An ordained American Baptist minister, Rev. Webb holds a Master of Divinity from Princeton Theological Seminary and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Alabama State University.
