Judson Press Book Encourages Evangelicals to Work for Justice and Peace

VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 9/15/21)—“God’s Invitation to Peace and Justice: Sermons and Essays on Shalom,” published by Judson Press today, focuses on fighting injustice as a way of life for evangelical Christians.

Challenging corporations, individuals, and believers to seek peace and justice, the book features more than 40 compelling sermons and essays written throughout author Ronald J. Sider’s career. His challenge to followers of Jesus to embrace and live out the twin biblical mandates of evangelism and social action has been endorsed by multiple noted theologians and justice advocates, including Shane Claiborne, Tony Campolo and Scot McKnight.

“In ‘God’s Invitation to Peace and Justice,’ Ron Sider discerningly leads us into his life’s work and writings. If you’re unfamiliar with his work—his fundamental concerns—here is the place to begin reading. If you know his writings and life well, you’ll find his synopses to be a helpful map for what concerns him most as he enters his ninth decade. He’s grown, and you’ll grow too as you ponder what he feels is most important to understanding him and the meaning of his life. When I finished reading the book, I smiled, sighed and thanked God for a life lived so well,” says Chris Hall, president of Renovaré, a Christian nonprofit that advocates fullness of life through the spiritual practices of Jesus and the historical Church.

Al Tizon, executive minister at Serve Globally, Evangelical Covenant Church adds: “This has been Ron’s message for the last five decades: ‘Do justice, make peace, and tell the salvation story to any, and all because Jesus is Lord!’”

Author Ronald J. Sider is distinguished professor emeritus of Theology, Holistic Ministry and Public Policy at Eastern University’s Palmer Theological Seminary and president emeritus of Evangelicals for Social Action. He served as publisher of PRISM magazine and contributing editor of Christianity Today for 20 years. He has spoken on six continents and published more than 40 books as well as scores of articles. One of his most noted books, “Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger,” was recognized by Christianity Today as one of the 100 hundred most influential religious books of the 20th century.
