Dr. Alfred Fletcher Completes Service as Acting Associate General Secretary

VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 7/12/17)—The Rev. Dr. Alfred J. Fletcher has announced he will complete his service as Acting Associate General Secretary for Mission Resource Development at the end of August 2017. Throughout a 13-month cooperative term of service with the ABCUSA Office of the General Secretary, Fletcher has continued to serve the American Baptist Churches of Maine as Regional Executive Minister. The unique partnership allowed Fletcher to assist in the transition time between ABCUSA General Secretaries.

In Fletcher’s role as Acting Associate General Secretary, he worked to connect on new levels with the Regional Executive Ministers that lead the 34 regions of American Baptist Churches USA. During this assignment, Fletcher focused on assisting the program boards and American Baptist regions in raising mission support, communicating the vision and mission story of the denomination, and working to develop stewardship and giving resources for local congregations.

ABCUSA General Secretary Lee B. Spitzer said, “Dr. Fletcher is to be commended for his leadership during the transitional period ABCUSA has gone through. As Acting Associate General Secretary for Mission Resource Development, he enthusiastically encouraged our whole family to give to United Mission and other offerings more sacrificially. I would like to thank American Baptist Churches of Maine for sharing Al’s time and talents with our denominational family.”

“My service as Acting Associate General Secretary for Mission Resource Development is coming to an end,” said Fletcher as he reflected on his role. “However, my commitment to serve with American Baptists as the hands and feet of Christ will remain. Thank you for allowing me to serve.”

American Baptist Churches USA is one of the most diverse Christian denominations today, with approximately 5,000 congregations comprised of 1.3 million members, across the United States and Puerto Rico, all engaged in God’s mission around the world.
