Back by Popular Demand: ABHMS to Present ‘Space for Grace’ at Biennial Mission Summit

VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 5/8/17)—As part of the 2017 Biennial Mission Summit in Portland, Ore., back by popular demand is the artistic portion of American Baptist Home Mission Societies’ (ABHMS) acclaimed “Space for Grace” event.

Showcasing original works by Christian-influenced artists and performers, Space for Grace will be presented Friday through Sunday in Innovators Hall.

“The excitement and joy with which these artists were received in 2015 has encouraged us to offer this aspect of Space for Grace once again,” says the Rev. Dr. Marilyn P. Turner-Triplett, ABHMS director, Rizpah’s Children, who is overseeing Space for Grace planning for Portland. “Please stop by to experience what promises to be a daring presentation of creative and forward-thinkers who desire to impact their communities and the world with a fresh presentation of God’s story.”

From pen-and-ink and acrylic works to watercolor and live painting onsite, a variety of visual arts will be on display to enjoy. Select items will be available for purchase. An artist-led evening opportunity will allow attendees to create their own works on canvas.

Live performances will range from gospel-inspired violin, ethereal vocal harmony and liturgical dance to hip-hop, spoken-word and stand-up comedy. Directors of two compelling, social justice-related film shorts will be on hand to take questions after screening their works.

In addition, Space for Grace will provide a place for conference goers to meet new and old friends, engage in dialogue, partake in snacks and relax. Night owls will revel in the opportunity to see high-quality performances until midnight on Friday and Saturday.
