ABHMS’ Turner-Triplett to be Alderson Broaddus Commencement Speaker

VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 5/4/17)—The Rev. Dr. Marilyn P. Turner-Triplett, director of American Baptist Home Mission Societies’ (ABHMS) Rizpah’s Children initiative, will serve as speaker for the 146th Commencement at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 6, in Rex Pyles Arena, Memorial Coliseum, Alderson Broaddus University, Philippi, W.Va.

Rizpah’s Children seeks to create a network of community-outreach ministries that provide long-term solutions to the complex challenges faced by children affected by poverty. The initiative takes its name from Turner-Triplett’s sermon by the same name, which relates the account of Rizpah (2 Samuel 21:1-10), a mother who advocated for the seven slain children of Saul—two of her own and five of another. Both the sermon and the ministry urge American Baptists to follow Rizpah’s example by advocating for children affected by poverty.

Turner-Triplett had previously served as ABHMS’ associate executive director of Missional Life and Leadership. She is an associate minister at Bethlehem Baptist Church, Springhouse, Pa., where she previously served as executive minister. Commencement will be streamed on the university’s site at ab.edu/graduation.
