American Baptist Women’s Ministries Establishes “Women and Girls Mission Fund”

VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 2/25/11)—American Baptist Women’s Ministries announces the formation of the “Women and Girls Mission Fund.” Donors can contribute to this single fund to support a variety of crucial missions to women and girls, including leadership development, Refit, the AB GIRLS ministry, and the “Break the Chains and Stop the Pain” mission project. In addition, the mission fund will provide the means for AB Women’s Ministries to partner in mission at home and around the world that focuses on bringing healing and hope to women and girls. The national board of AB Women’s Ministries will approve the use of funds for proposed projects through American Baptist Churches USA and with women of faith through Baptist and ecumenical efforts.

AB Women’s Ministries National President Barbara Anderson said, “I am thrilled about our new Women and Girls Mission Fund. It allows us to have a greater impact to empower women and girls and provide American Baptist Women’s Ministries an opportunity to partner with our Christian sisters both locally and globally.”

Anderson noted that she had issued a challenge in November to American Baptist women to raise funds for a Cholera Prevention & Education health initiative begun by the women of the Haitian Baptist Convention. “In the crisis moments of the Cholera outbreak, the need for help was immediate, and I’m proud to say that American Baptist women rallied to raise $25,000 in four months’ time. If we had had the Women and Girls Mission Fund in place when the Haitian Baptist women first requested our help, we could have responded with no delay.”

Contributions may be made to “ABWM Women and Girls Mission Fund,” and directed to American Baptist Women’s Ministries, P.O. Box 851, Valley Forge, PA, 19482-0851, or online at

American Baptist Churches is one of the most diverse Christian denominations today, with 5,500 local congregations comprised of 1.3 million members, across the United States and Puerto Rico, all engaged in God’s mission around the world.
