Ohio Couple Endorsed as IM Missionaries to Serve in the Dominican Republic

VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 10/17/13)—Rev. Peter and Sarah McCurdy of Madison, Ohio have been endorsed by American Baptist International Ministries (IM) to serve as missionaries in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic (DR). They will provide support and encouragement to pastors and pastors’ families, as well as extending their ministry into Cuba.

Peter is an ordained American Baptist Churches pastor and currently serves as Senior Pastor at First Baptist Church of Painesville in Painesville, Ohio.  Sarah serves as adjunct faculty at Lakeland Community College in Kirtland, Ohio.  The couple’s four children, Elisabeth (12), Nathaniel (age 9), Samuel (age 7) and Elianna (age 4) will serve with their parents in the DR.

When asked why they feel called to this ministry, both Sarah and Peter responded that God placed a calling on them to serve Him since childhood. In 2012 the couple volunteered on a short-term mission trip in Peru and Sarah felt a distinct calling to global mission. She explained, “I felt God telling me that we would one day spend an extended time with the whole family ministering on the mission field.”  The couple applied for mission service with IM thinking they would go to Peru.  “But God had other ideas,” Peter added. “It was late in the IM interview process that we heard about the DR. We knew in our hearts that it was God’s will for us.”

As an endorsed missionary couple, the McCurdys will be working in the months ahead to build their Mission Partnership Network.  They will be inviting individuals, groups and churches to partner with them by committing to share the spiritual, relational and financial support needed to begin their ministries in the DR.

Please join IM in celebrating this new endorsement and praying for the McCurdys and their children as they invite others to join them in ministry.
