Lawrence Dean Hurst Dies; Worked for Educational Ministries

VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 8/10/20)—Lawrence Dean Hurst, 83, of Audubon, Pa., formerly of King of Prussia, Pa., passed away on Aug. 4. He was employed by Educational Ministries—today part of American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS)—for 28 years, holding various positions.

He was the husband of Joan (Wadsworth) Hurst, with whom he was married for 56 years. Born in Hillsdale, Mich., in 1937, he was the son of the late Dallas and Marie (Boman) Hurst.

After working at ABHMS, he was an account administrator at Vanguard for seven years. Upon retiring, he continued working with finances as a certified financial planner and volunteering to prepare taxes with AARP.

He received degrees from the International Business College of Fort Wayne, Ind., and Ursinus College, Collegeville, Pa. He served in the United States Army, 1955-1957.

He was a member of Bankers Baptist Church, Michigan, and Upper Merion Baptist Church, King of Prussia.

He was active with Valley Forge Kiwanis Club for many years.

Survivors: Wife; daughters, Shelley (Kevin) Meenan of Wayne and Deborah (Kenneth) Chiarello of Berwyn, Pa.; five grandchildren, Marissa and Elizabeth Meenan and Matthew, Cailyn and Ella Chiarello; three siblings, Maxine (Dean) Scoville of Hillsdale, Mich., Karen (Frank) Johnson of Qunicy, Mich., Tom (Sue) Hurst of Reading, Mich.; and sister-in-law Janice Hurst of Jonesville, Mich. He was predeceased by his parents and brother Marvin Hurst.
