VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 5/4/10)—Former budget review officer and faithful American Baptist Dorothy Herrin died on Wednesday morning, April 28, 2010. She served four terms in this position, from 1986-1993.

Herrin served as a member of the ABC General Board and the General Board Executive Committee. She also served as a member of the Board of Educational Ministries, the Ministers and Missionaries Benefit Board, and the Midwest Commission of Ministry.

"As thorough and meticulous Dorothy was in 'keeping the books,' so also she lived out her faith with quiet diligence,” said general secretary Roy Medley. “She was rich toward God in good works and a faithful supporter of the mission and ministry of American Baptist Churches."
 
Herrin was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Kansas City, Mo. She was active in region and ABC affairs through her life, and was a trusted advisor on denomination and financial affairs. 

Herrin was a retired insurance executive, and received a B.A. in mathematics from Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas.

Cheryl Wade, former associate general secretary/treasurer, remembered her by saying, “Dorothy Herrin was a person of integrity, business acumen, common sense, and faith.  As Budget Review Officer, she steered the business side of denominational life with an eye to the purpose of our work: to honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.  It was an honor to work alongside Dorothy.”
