IM Global Servant Accepts National Award for World Peace

VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 12/18/18)—International Ministries (IM) is excited to announce that newly endorsed global servant Faye Yarbrough is one of four outstanding women leaders to be awarded the Women’s Federation for World Peace (WFWP) National HerStory Award.

The award recognizes Yarbrough for her service in the United States Army as a Non-Commissioned Officer obtaining the rank of Sergeant in the Corps of Engineers. She was nominated by Denneze Nelson, president of the New Jersey chapter of WFWP. The award ceremony was conducted on November 12, 2018, at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, New York.

According to a November 29, 2018, story from the Women’s Federation for World Peace USA, in her acceptance speech, Yarbrough shared that fighting against oppression around the world is necessary and that it is an honor to serve her country and promote peace.

The award also honored Yarbrough for her heart to serve even beyond her time in the military, including her May 15, 2018, endorsement as a long-term global servant in South Africa with IM in King Williams Town, South Africa. She will serve through an IM partner, the Baptist Union of Southern Africa, as a math and science educator.

The global servants and staff of IM are excited to see how the Lord will work through Yarbrough in South Africa. The Rev. Dr. Eleazar Ziherambere comments, “When I visited the Teleios Christian School in King Williams Town with Faye, I could not help but be touched by the way she interacted with young pupils from different backgrounds. Her heart longs to lift up those who are at risk of falling through the cracks.  I have observed her passion for the people who are in great need and I praise God for calling her to global service through IM.”

Born in Georgetown, Guyana, Yarbrough immigrated to a multi-ethnic neighborhood in Albany, New York, at age eight. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, New York, in 1982. She served in the U.S. military from 1983–1986, where she worked in power generation equipment repair and attained the rank of Sergeant.

For the past 18 years, Yarbrough has held a variety of professional positions related to chemical engineering, earning numerous educational and career accomplishments and awards in the field. She currently works as laboratory manager for Triumph Processing, Inc., in Lynwood, California.

Yarbrough’s passion for math and science and for teaching youth and young adults has been borne out of her love of Christ and service in her local church, Trinity Baptist Church of Los Angeles. It all started with a church-sponsored weekly community outreach program with a focus on education. Yarbrough was deeply involved in helping to develop the program, becoming the coordinator as well as a teacher.

Out of this meaningful experience, Yarbrough said, “My prayer was for God to use me to meet the needs of his people using math and science. God connected me with IM and the ministry in King Williams Town, South Africa, where the people in the multi-ethnic churches, schools, orphanages and after-school programs had been praying to God to send more help for school-age children and young adults. God answered both of our prayers!

“I love when children and young adults are on fire for the Lord,” Yarbrough continued. “Using my love for mathematics and science, I hope to encourage children and young adults to discover how their gifts can be utilized in the kingdom of God. I look forward to seeing them become more than just consumers of technology, but also innovators with the gifts he has given to each of them.”

More information about Faye Carol Yarbrough is available on her profile page on the IM website.
