American Baptist Women’s Ministries to Host a Free Webinar for Women About Dating Violence

VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 5/3/18)—American Baptist Women’s Ministries is hosting a free one-hour webinar about dating violence on Thursday, May 10 at 9:00 p.m. Eastern (6:00 p.m. Pacific). The Dating Violence Across the Ages webinar will discuss issues of dating violence experienced by women of all ages. All women across the country are invited to register for this educational webinar, which will cover information about abusive relationships experienced by women who are just beginning to date, as well as older adults who are returning the dating scene after a divorce from or death of a spouse. Attendees will learn how to identify early signs of abusive relationship dynamics, and how to properly respond if they suspect someone is being abused.

The webinar presenter will be Rev. Tamara Jackson, who is an ordained minister, licensed clinical social worker, and trauma specialist. Jackson was responsible for developing and coordinating the inaugural ‘Sacred Spaces’ special project for the American Baptist Churches of New Jersey, which included a ‘Congregational Covenant of Nonviolence’ campaign. She also has experience working in India with women and children living in brothels and serving as pastor and interim pastor of several churches. Additionally, Jackson has earned several awards for her advocacy work, including the American Baptist Churches of New Jersey Seminarian Scholar of the Year for 2009-2010 and the 2010-2011 Verizon Wireless Hopeline Violence Against Women and Children Scholar from Rutgers School of Social Work.

“Women’s voices around women’s issues of safety, sexual assault, violence and emotional wellness fill the headlines and there has been a collected response through the MeToo and TimesUp movements. Each of us has a part to play in empowering women to tell their stories, to heighten awareness of these issues, and to resolving these problems. We hope that the Dating Violence webinar will educate and empower all women of all ages,” states Rev. Gina Jacobs-Strain, executive director of American Baptist Women’s Ministries.

Women can register for the free ‘Dating Violence Across the Ages’ webinar by visiting abwomensministries.org.
