ABHMS Shares ICCR’s Proxy Voting Guide for Socially Responsible Investing

VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 2/23/18)—As part of its Socially Responsible Investing ministry and in time for the 2018 proxy voting season, American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS) shares the “2018 Proxy Resolutions and Voting Guide” from the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility (ICCR).

New information provided in this year’s guide includes that on gun safety, paid family leave, supply-chain policy on prison labor, and cost-benefit analysis on political contributions.

“For faith-based investors, voting proxies are an important part of our overall stewardship,” says Michaele Birdsall, ABHMS deputy executive director, treasurer and chief financial officer. “Voting proxies send a clear message to corporate leaders that long-term financial returns are inextricably linked to how we care for people and the environment. We strongly encourage investors to review the proxy voting guide to become aware of the issues and understand the business case for why addressing them is so important.”

To access the guide, visit > Ministries > Socially Responsible Investing, and scroll to “Resources” near the bottom of the page. Also available under “Resources” is a slideshow that serves as an introduction to the ICCR guide.

ABHMS is a founding member of ICCR.

Celebrating its 47th year, ICCR is the pioneer coalition of shareholder advocates who view the management of their investments as a catalyst for social change. Its 300-member organizations comprise faith communities and other socially responsible investors who work in coalition to promote greater corporate accountability on issues of environmental and social importance.
