June 21: American Baptist Women Celebrate Missions

VALLEY FORGE, PA (ABNS 3/20/13)—American Baptist Women’s Ministries announces its 2013 Women’s Day, “A Time to Serve,” on Friday, June 21, 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., at the Overland Park Convention Center in Overland Park, Kansas, immediately preceding the Mission Summit/Biennial of American Baptist Churches USA. “A Time to Serve,” based on Ecclesiastes 3:1-8, will give women the inspiration to praise and serve God in all they do.

“A Time to Serve” features interactive Bible study led by Rev. Karen Selig, pastor of Royersford Baptist Church in Royersford, Pennsylvania. American Baptist missionary Marcia Binkley and Htoo May, president of the Karen Christian Women’s Association in the U.S., will help participants celebrate the 200th anniversary of Ann and Adoniram Judson’s mission in Burma. A Karen Choir from Grace Baptist Church in Kansas City, Missouri, will enhance the celebrations with music, and the AB GIRLS of Central Region will bring vibrant leadership to the afternoon session. Praise and worship will be led by Holly Balch, who ministers at DeSoto Baptist Church, DeSoto, Kansas, as worship leader.

American Baptist Women’s Ministries Executive Director Virginia Holmstrom remarks, “For many years Women’s Day has provided a special opportunity for women to gather on the opening day of the ABC Biennial event for worship and to celebrate their engagement in mission and ministry. I look forward to the wonderful fellowship on June 21 this year with our Baptist sisters from Burma who represent 200 years of Baptist witness in Myanmar. Acknowledging with gratitude our Baptist foremothers who served in Burma as missionaries long ago, we will celebrate God’s ever-present call to AB women and girls today to be the hands and feet of  Christ in a changing world. It is truly ‘A Time to Serve.’”

Pre-registration is $50, including morning and afternoon program and hot luncheon. Tickets for Women’s Day may be purchased through American Baptist Women’s Ministries.
